Mary Elizabeth Hammond ,58, died unexpectedly at her home in Eastover, North Carolina on Monday, November 28, 2022.

She was born in Columbia, S.C. on May 11, 1964 to John S. and Carolyn O. Hammond and grew up in Newberry, S.C.

Mary was a graduate of Newberry High School and Winthrop University where she was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority. She received her Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina.

Mary loved her family, her friends, and her profession. She was a dedicated teacher and cared deeply for her students. At the time of her death, she was a third grade teacher at Devers Elementary School at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sister, Karen Krouse (Bill); brother, John S. Hammond, Jr. (Laurie); niece, Lauren Hammond; nephew, Nathan Hammond (Rebecca); great-niece, Jane Hammond; aunt, Mildred Osborne; and a number of cousins.

The funeral service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Newberry, on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Matthew Titus officiating. Burial will follow at Newberry Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service starting at 1PM.
