Obituary

Mary Ella Covington Lovett, 94, of Chapin, SC, died Saturday, August 1, 2026, at her residence. Born on April 1, 1932, in Rock Hill, SC, Mary was one of thirteen children of the late Guy Brannon Covington, Sr. and Ella Miver Fox Covington.

Mary dedicated her professional life as a secretary with the Richland County School District 1, contributing tirelessly to the educational community. Beyond her career, she was one of the founding members of Chapin Baptist Church, where she devoted much of her time and energy to supporting the church and its congregation.

Mary had a passion for cooking, particularly during family gatherings around the holidays, creating meals that became beloved family favorites. Her greatest joy, however, came from being a grandmother and great-grandmother, relishing in watching her grandchildren grow. She was also an avid crafter, enjoying sewing, crocheting, and making baby blankets for family members and charitable donations overseas.

Mary’s family was always a source of immense pride for her. Mary’s legacy of love, dedication, and faith leaves a mark on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the community she so greatly impacted.

She is survived by her sons, Steve Lovett (Carol), Jeff Lovett and Brent Lovett; grandchildren, Rhett Lovett (Rachel), Courtney Lovett, and Katie Lovett; great-grandchildren, Sloan Mendelson, Kinsley Reuter, Jana Mendelson and Charlotte Lovett. Mary is also survived by her siblings, Norma Covington and Ralph Covington.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, William E. Lovett, Sr.; son, William E. Lovett, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Donna Lovett; and siblings, Ray, George, Libby, Paul, Don, Bill, Betty, Carl, Sara and Ronald Covington.

Funeral Service will be held 4:00 PM, Friday, August 7, 2026, at Chapin Baptist Church. Officiated by Rev. Michael Hull.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until 3:45 PM, prior to the service at the church.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Chapin Baptist Church, 950 Old Lexington Highway, Chapin, SC, 29036.

Memories and condolences can be shared here on her tribute wall.
