Obituary

Mary Walker May, 79, of Chapin, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024, at Lexington Medical Center.

Born on January 4, 1945, to Charles and Anna Walker, both of whom preceded her in death. Mary was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Jon May, and her brother, Charles Walker.

Mary is survived by her children, Michelle May Nalley (Anthony Nalley) and Jeffery May, as well as her cherished grandchildren, Morgan Nalley-Robins (Matthew Robins) and Matthew Nalley, and special nephew Edward Walker (Sharon Walker), all of the Chapin and Columbia areas. Mary was deeply devoted to her family, which extended beyond her immediate loved ones to include nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Throughout their marriage, Jon's career took them to many towns and states across the Southeast, but after his retirement, they were able to make Chapin, South Carolina, their permanent home in order to be closer to their family. For decades, Mary was an active and faithful member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, where she formed lasting friendships that she treasured deeply.

A true sports enthusiast, Mary was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed both watching and attending NASCAR races. She and Jon shared many travel adventures both here and abroad during their marriage. Above all, Mary was known for her boundless generosity, often giving selflessly to those she loved, always going above and beyond for her family and friends. Known for her candid nature, Mary was never afraid to share her views and opinions. Her honesty and forthrightness were defining traits that those close to her both respected and admired.

Mary's love for her family was unwavering, and nothing brought her more joy than spending time with them. She was diligent in staying connected with distant family members and friends, making sure that those she loved always knew how much she cared.

The family takes great comfort in knowing that Mary and Jon are reunited, and that their love story, which was admired by all who knew them, continues into eternity.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Mary's life will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, October 15th, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Chapin, SC.
