Obituary

Mary Bacon Clark McManaway, 91, of 110 Barn Road, White Rock, SC passed to be with her heavenly father on May 22nd, at Lexington Medical Center. In her last days, many members of her family stood with Mary and filled her room with love. A true testament to the strong family bond that will continue for generations to come.

She was born on November 12, 1932 in Columbia, and was the daughter of the late Waldo Cidney Bacon and Martha Louise Still.

Ms. McManaway's work as a legal secretary certainly built a strong foundation for proper English and a perfection in the written word. No assignment was complete without the corrections made with a pen, and if you find yourself being corrected by one of her family members, just know we cannot help it. She enjoyed being a homemaker for her husband and three girls. Mary was a Girl Scout leader, volunteered with Christmas toy projects and taught Girls in Action at State Street Baptist Church in Cayce, SC. Ms. McManaway was a proud member of State Street Baptist Church in Cayce, SC as well as First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, NC. Her accomplishments and teachings can still be seen today through her beautiful daughters. A priority to faith, family and manners has carried through from her children to her great grandchildren. She was the stone which cast a ripple effect one will feel for ages to come. Even today, her family enjoys a yearly beach vacation - a tradition which Mary started 44 years ago!

Ms. McManaway is survived by her three daughters: Carol (Leland) Teal of Chapin, Cindy (Corky) Spires of West Columbia, and Beth (Donnie) Lindler of Chapin; six grandchildren: Amanda (Jason) Haltiwanger of Roebuck, Heather (Chip) Jordan of Little Mountain, Brooke (Pete) White of Marietta, GA, Josh (May) Lindler of Chapin, Brittany (David) Lee of West Columbia and Meagan (Dustin) Morris of Simpsonville and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Marion DuBose Clark and her second husband, Beverly Newton "Mac" McManaway; as well as her parents, Waldo and Martha Bacon.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12pm, Friday June 7, 2024 at Whitaker Funeral Home in Chapin.  The family will receive friends one hour prior.

Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hendersonville, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in memory of Mary.
