Obituary

Mary Sue Hutchinson Clary, 87, of Newberry and widow of Charles Clary, died Sunday, February 27, 2022. Born in Newberry on March 21, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Cyril McKeene and Mary Sue Stuckey Hutchinson. Mary Sue was always on the go, working, participating, or volunteering whenever she could. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and participated on a variety of committees and groups over the years. She treasured her bridge games, the Class of 1952 reunions, golf games at the Country Club of Newberry, and going to the beach and to Steeple Chase with friends. Her career began in the Newberry Mill, transitioned to Clary's clothing store, and ultimately, she retired in banking. Upon retirement, she joined the team at Newberry Chamber of Commerce and later the staff of the Newberry Opera House. Whether it was working in the box office, ushering and directing, or just catching a glimpse of a performance, Mary Sue loved spending her time as an ambassador for the Newberry Opera House. Mary Sue had many passions but most important to her was her family. She was a supportive and loving Mom and Nanna. She is survived by her sons, Mack (Susan) Clary and CJ Clary, all of Newberry; son-in-law, Butch Ardis; grandchildren, Hal (Julie) Clary, Ryan Clary, Whitney Clary, Zach (Mandy) Ardis, LeVon (Rebekah) Ardis, Cameron (Hayley) Clary, and Elena Clary; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Betty Ann (Willard) Byrd, and Harriett Hagood (Jerry) Floyd; cousin, Suzanne Smith; and aunt, Margie Stuckey. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Lynn Clary Ardis; and her sister, Peggy Schumpert. Graveside services will be conducted by the Rev.
