Mattie Mae Long Wicker 94 of 1137 Union School Road Prosperity died Sunday August 1 2010 at her residence. Born in Newberry County on December 6 1915 she was a daughter of the late J. Ebb and Corrie Gruber Long. Mrs. Wicker retired from the Newberry School System after working many years in the Prosperity Elementary School Lunch Room. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Bible Class and the WELCA. Mrs. Wicker loved the outdoors especially spending time watching the birds fishing and gardening.She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Mary Ann and Charles Sharpe of West Columbia; sons and daughter-in-law Earl S. Wicker of Prosperity and Milford and Jolene Wicker of Prosperity; eight grandchildren two step-grandchildren sixteen great-grandchildren seven step-great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband E. Boyd Wicker; a daughter Clairis Bedenbaugh an infant son two infant grandchildren two brothers and six sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brent Nichols. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Tuesday at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry. The family will be located at Mrs. Wickers residence. Active pallbearers will be Alan Dale Wicker Randall Scott Wicker James Boyd Wicker Allen Chapman Ethan Hancock Jack Brunnemer and Eddie Benton II. Honorary pallbearers will be the Ladies Bible Class of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
