Obituary

Maureen Marquette Hightower 73 of Chapin died Friday February 14 2014. The Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 AM Tuesday February 18 2013 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with visitation to follow. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Rev. Andrew J. Vollkommer at 11 AM Tuesday following the visitation. Interment in Bamberg SC was held. Born on September 25 1940 in Winooski VT she was a daughter of the late Mary and Alfred Marquette. Mrs. Hightower was a Captain in the US Air Force and served as a flight nurse during the Vietnam War. She is a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. She worked as a registered nurse and taught nursing at the University of South Carolina for many years. After her retirement from nursing she owned and operated the Hook and Needle store. Mrs. Hightower loved working with her hands and won many awards for her knitting and needlework. She is survived by her son Jason Hightower of Little Mountain; and a sister Carol Newton (Phil) of CT. She was predeceased by her husband James Lawrence Larry Hightower; and a brother Alfred Marquette.
