Max Sam Cook 82 of 1089 Bachman Chapel Road Prosperity died Thursday November 24 2005 at the Lexington Medical Center.Mr. Cook was born on October 9 1923 in Prosperity a son of the late Sam A. and Eunice Halfacre Cook. He was a Navy veteran of WW II having served in the Pacific Theater on the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-LA. He was the President of Dormax Farms and was a former partner in Cook Brothers.Mr. Cook was a member of Wightman United Methodist Church the Methodist Men the Intercessory Prayer Group the VFW American Legion Post 24 USS Shangri-La Reunion Association and the Lower Newberry County Farmers Association.Mr. Cook is survived by his wife of 62 years Dorothy DuBose Cook; three daughters Maxine C. Bailey of Irmo Shirley C. Weaver of Mt. Pleasant and Marsha C. Price of Irmo; three sisters and a brother–in-law Christine C. Hutchinson and Anne C. Graham both of Newberry and Caroline C. and Buck Cockrell of Prosperity; a sister-in-law Peggy B. Cook of Prosperity; six grandchildren Alex Bailey Chris Bailey Mamie Rand Meredith Hulen John Weaver and Ryan Price; and 10 great grandchildren Maxwell Bailey Jared Bailey Rachel Bailey Miles Bailey Kelsey Rand Shelby Rand Nate Rand Chrisman Rand Max Hulen and DuBose Hulen. He was predeceased by a brother Harold Cook.Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at the Wightman United Methodist Church by the Rev. Eddie Taylor. Visitation was from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
