Obituary

Melba Neelands Bowers, 59, of Prosperity, died Monday, February 8, at Prisma Richland Memorial Hospital. She was born August 31, 1961 in Newberry to the late Minor Edmond Neelands and Peggy Wessinger Neelands. Melba was loved by everyone who knew her. Being a Mom was her greatest life's work and spending time with her sons and their friends brought her great joy. She was "a Momma to everyone" and was accepted by people from all ages and walks of life. She was genuinely kind, caring, and enjoyed having a good time. Melba enjoyed watching Clemson Football, Nascar, and Tom Brady. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, John F. Wheeler, III; sons, Shane Bowers and Austin Wheeler of Newberry, a sister, Patty (Eddie) Bobb of Camden; a brother, Eddie (Ella) Neelands of Newberry; and several nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Grandparents, and a sister-in-law, Bridgett Diane Wheeler. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, February 12 at St. Paul Lutheran Church cemetery by the Rev. D. Brent Nichols. Pallbearers will be Shane Bowers, Austin Wheeler, Eddie Neelands, Mason McCaskill, and Josh Bailey. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2496 SC Highway 773 Pomaria, SC 29126. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family here on the Tribute Wall. Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry, is honored to be assisting the family.
