Obituary

Melvin Ray Dominick, Sr., 82, died peacefully at his son's home in Newberry, SC on Saturday, February 17, 2024. A lifelong resident of Prosperity, SC, Melvin was born August 28, 1941, to the late O.C. and Etta Mae Dominick.

Melvin was a longtime and faithful member of Wightman United Methodist Church in Prosperity. He was a member of the Stephens Ministry and often participated in the Walk to Emmaus. Melvin was the last living charter member of the Prosperity Rescue Squad.

Melvin often enjoyed the company of family and friends, including a special group of ladies with whom he played cards. He enjoyed traveling to Pigeon Forge, TN on day trips to the beautiful area known as Cades Cove. He was an avid fan and supporter of The University of South Carolina Lady Gamecocks and attended games with his sister Cornelia as long as his health permitted. He was often seen in the stands attending sporting events for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved planning outings with his family including camping and going out to dinner with all of them regularly.

Melvin is survived by his son, Melvin R Dominick, Jr (Dianne), daughter, Kandy Dameron (Billy), his grandchildren, Timothy Ringer (Jessica), Christopher Ringer (April), Heather Dominick and Nick Fowler (Samantha). He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, a sister, Cornelia Collins, a nephew and several nieces.

In addition to his parents, Melvin was predeceased by a grandchild, Casey Dominick; brothers Dale and Robert Dominick and a sister, Judy Jennings.

A memorial service is planned for Sunday, March 3, 2024, at 2:00 o'clock PM at Wightman United Methodist Church in Prosperity, SC.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Agape Hospice team of Shasta, Shanae, Shannon and Chaplain Kevin for their generous care and assistance. They would also like to thank a special group of caregivers: Martha Richardson, Heather Dominick, Debbie Fowler, Timothy Ringer, Chris Ringer, April Ringer and Gina Long for stepping in to help when it was most needed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to be made to The Hospice and Palliative Foundation, PO Box 151, Drayton, SC, 29333 or to Wightman United Methodist Church in Prosperity, SC, in honor of Melvin R Dominick, Sr.
