Meredith C. "Cotton" Reighley, 87, of Newberry, died Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home. Born on August 17, 1930, he was a son of the late Allan and Willie "Mae" Shannon Reighley. He was retired from Ollie Dominick Builders and following retirement continued working with home remodeling. He attended the Methodist church. "Cotton" loved all aspects of the outdoors. He enjoyed planting his garden each year, spending time fishing and particularly enjoyed rabbit hunting. He treasured his many years of raising and training beagles for rabbit hunting and although they were hunt dogs, he grew to love many of them. He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Betty Carroll Reighley; his daughter, Dawn Reighley of Newberry; Buddy, his beagle, Pooh, his cat; nieces and nephews, Beverly Dehart Pitts, Donna Hall, Sandra Hall Freshour, Bobby Dehart, Larry Dehart, Danny Reighley and Allan Reighley. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Allan Reighley (Jean), Sarah R. Morris (James), Elizabeth R. Dehart (Clarence) and Brunell R. Hall (Ed); niece, Charlotte Reighley and nephew, Sammy Reighley. Mr. Reighley was particularly close to his deceased in-laws, Bill and Margaret Carroll, who treated him like a son,. The family also acknowledges the staff of J F Hawkins Nursing Home and Hospice of SC staff for their care and kindness. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jeff O'Dell. The family will receive friends following the service.
