Obituary

Michael W. and Thelma S. King a unique and beautiful couple died together in St. Maarten Virgin Islands on September 21 2012. Services for Michael and Thelma King were conducted at 4:00 PM Wednesday October 3 2012 at Chapin United Methodist Church by Rev. Jody Flowers and Rev. Paul Allen. Visitation was on Wednesday from 2:00 to 3:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall at Chapin United Methodist Church 415 Lexington Ave. Chapin SC. Thelma was the daughter of Sarah Seymore Strickland of Columbia SC and the late John Henry Strickland. Michael was the son of Sarah L. Sally Gripkey of Irmo SC and Jerry L. King and step-mother Jane C. King of Kings Mountain NC. Both Michael and Thelma were successful entrepreneurs who enjoyed life together to the fullest. They had a deep respect and love for each other family and friends. Loved ones knew them to be kind gracious generous and fun-loving individuals. Their impact on so many will never be forgotten. In addition to her mother Thelma is survived by her sister Lois S. and spouse Mac R. Swain of Chapin SC; nephews and spouses Justin P. and Aimee W. Swain of Charleston SC and Michael R. and Christy H. Swain of Columbia SC; great nieces and nephews Kylie Swain Jesse Swain and Greta Swain. She was predeceased by her father and grandparents James C. and Mollie B. Seymore and J. D. and Daisy Josephine Strickland. Michael is survived by his parents sisters and brothers and their spouses Karen K. and Jeffrey A. Moser of Cary NC Todd and Paula A. King of Chapin SC and Susan J. King of Irmo SC and Finley and Eden Z. King of Mt. Pleasant SC; nieces and nephews L. Leigh Moser W. Jacob Jake Moser Sarah T. Torre Moser all of Cary NC Colden T. King and Madison A. King both of Chapin SC Sarah S. King and Gibson G. King both of Mt. Pleasant SC. Michael was predeceased by grandparents William E. and Sarah T. Leigh and Denver O. and Louise B. King. Memorials are suggested to the Thornwell Home for Children in Clinton SC (thornwellhome.org) and to Chapin United Methodist Church. The family greatly appreciates the outpouring of love and support that has been shared with them during this tragedy. They humbly request that you respect their privacy and allow them to be together as a family following the service and to resume your visits on the following day.
