Michael Thomas Takach, Sr., "the Godfather", 89, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2016.
He was born on November 26, 1926 in Jessup, PA, a son of the late Andrew and Anna Onda Takach.
Soon after he was born, Michael and his mother returned to his family's native country of Czechoslovakia until he was ten years old. Thereafter, Michael was processed back into the US through Ellis Island, NY. He grew a deep love for the US and enlisted in the US Navy during WWII, serving on the U.S.S. Carpellotti battleship. After serving his county, Michael began his career with the Federal Government Civil Service Post Engineers at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC.
Michael was a devout Catholic, Grand Knight, and Faithful Navigator of the Knights of Columbus, and an active volunteer and contributor in the Columbia and Chapin Communities.
He had a great love for his family and is survived by his sons, Thomas Andrew Takach (Sharon) and David Lawrence Takach (Denise), all of Chapin; daughter, Mary Ann Edrington (David) of Irmo; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Mayeux; nine grandchildren, Deanna Takach, Shane Takach, Drew Takach, Tonya Tucker, Jay Takach, David Takach, Kelly Edrington, Brent Takach, and Kayla Edrington, and their spouses; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret Squirlock Takach and a son, Michael Thomas Takach, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at the home of Tom and Sharon Takach, 6 Deuce Ct., Chapin, SC and on Monday from 9:45 until 10:15 AM at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church by the Rev. John Murray.
Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Drew Takach, Jay Takach, Brent Takach, Andrew Takach, David Takach, II, Chris Tucker, Dalton Tucker, and Shane Takach.
