Mildred Koger Holliday 89 of Newberry died Wednesday February 11 2015 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday February 14 2015 at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dr. Mitchell VanMetre. Interment will follow at Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service on Saturday beginning at 10:00 AM. Born on April 30 1925 in Colleton County she was the daughter of the late William Willie Oswell Koger and Rebecca Adams Koger. She was married for 52 years to Ray Holliday who died in 2009. Mrs. Holliday graduated from Walterboro High School in 1942 and Winthrop College in 1946. She retired in 1980 from the Clemson Extension office after 33 years of service. One of the many awards and accolades that Mrs. Holliday received during her career was The Distinguish Service Award from the National Association of Extension Services. Mrs. Holliday was active in all areas of her community. She was a devoted member of Aveleigh Presbyterian Church a member of the Newberry Opera House Revitalization Committee and the Beautification and Community Improvement Committee of Newberry County. In 1983 she was presented a plaque for Outstanding Contributions to Newberry County. She is survived by a sister-in-law Sara Lyle Koger of Round O; nephews William R. Koger Jr. (Caroline) of Hampton John A. Koger of Round O Frank Sligh (Kim) of Newberry and Stanley Holcombe (Sharon) of Anderson; nieces Debbie Griffin (Paul) of Marietta GA and Susan Owens (Robert) of Roswell GA. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her nephew Michael T. Koger and her brother W. Randolph Koger. Mrs. Hollidays nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews commented that Aunt Mildred and Uncle Ray were a vital part of their lives and their devotion and love for one another were inspirations to them.
