Mildred Virginia Mincey Piehl, 83, died Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Heritage at Lowman in White Rock, SC.
Born in Horry County, SC, on August 4, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Charles P. and Zilpha Gerald Mincey.
Mrs. Piehl was trained as a Registered Nurse. She and her husband spent much time exploring the American west. She is remembered fondly for the many years she spent as a mother, grandmother, and homemaker for her family.
Mildred was a member of the Rockhound Gem and Mineral Club. She was also a reader, a painter, a potter, and a jewelry maker, and together with her husband she filled her home with the results of their talents. Mildred enjoyed spending time in her flower and vegetable gardens, and especially liked traveling and camping with her grandchildren. Generous and welcoming, she was a special grandmother, the grandmother who would paint matching sweatshirts at Christmas for her grandchildren. She will be missed terribly.
Mildred's husband, Gerald "Jerry" Piehl, passed in 2006. She is survived by her children, Dr. Fred Piehl and his wife Jeannie of Chapin, and Dawn Tsai and her husband Claude of Boston. Mildred is also survived by her brother C. P. Mincey with his wife Betty, and she is survived by her brother Euel Shelley with his wife Mary Ann, all of whom live in Nichols. Furthermore, Mildred is survived by her grandchildren, Severin Piehl with his wife Cassandra, Tyler Piehl, Kelsey Tsai, and Stephen Tsai. Mildred's brother Frank Mincey has also passed.
Funeral services will be held in Riverside Cemetery in Nichols at a later date.
