Milton L. "Mickey" Haltiwanger, 79, of Newberry, died Friday, September 15, 2017 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.
Born on November 16, 1937 in Prosperity, he was a son of the late George Langford Haltiwanger and Mildred Kinard Haltiwanger.
He was the former owner of M L Haltiwanger Logging and Haltiwanger Lumber Company. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and formerly served on the Congregational Council.
A man of integrity, kindness and compassion, he was often reaching out to others to help them in times of need. And though he never learned to swim, he was quite the master at teaching others how to water ski. He enjoyed his life and particularly treasured spending time with all of his grandchildren, especially his special needs grandson Brett.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Hawkins Haltiwanger, daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Johnny Stevens of Newberry and Laurie and Lane Ashley of Belton; grandchildren, Melissa S. and Jamie Freeman, Brett Stevens, Zachary Stevens, Rebecca Ashley and Madelyn Ashley; great grandchildren, Bristol and Easton Freeman; siblings, Ed Haltiwanger, Henry and Daphine Haltiwanger and Jimmy and Beth Haltiwanger all of Newberry; and sister-in-law, Linda Haltiwanger Clark of Newberry. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Randy Haltiwanger and siblings Lib Hamm, Dot Hamby, Mackey Satterfield and Kenny Haltiwanger.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 5:30 PM on Sunday, September 17 at the Whitaker Funeral Home, 1704 College St., Newberry.
The funeral service will be at 3:00 PM on Monday, September 18 at Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. Al Potter and Rev. Ron Hamm officiating. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Steve Hamm, Curtis Haltiwanger, Jerry Haltiwanger, Grady Haltiwanger, Randall Renwick, Blair Long, Kent Haltiwanger, Jay Haltiwanger and Jody Haltiwanger.
