IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nellie "Nell" Hollingsworth
Davis
July 24, 1927 – November 24, 2025
Nellie "Nell" Ruth Hollingsworth Davis, 98, of Spartanburg, died on Monday, November 24th, 2025. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was born on July 24, 1927 to the late Elias Meek and Elizabeth "Betty" Brown Hollingsworth.
Nell worked most of her professional life as an administrative assistant for various companies, including many years in the church office. She had exceptional shorthand skills, a skill she transitioned into her daily life making her recipes almost impossible to replicate.
She was a long-time active member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, where in addition to serving in the church office, she also served as a wedding director for many years.
She was a member of the Red Hat Society for several years, enjoyed line dancing, and volunteered for Mobile Meals alongside her husband. She was a talented seamstress and gardener and enjoyed reading and completing her crosswords in pen. And in the last few years, she found her IPad to be a source of entertainment, keeping in touch with friends and family, reading, and playing games.
Above all, Nell loved her family. She was married for 57 years to the late Walter Davis, Jr. and together they created many special memories. After his death in 2004, she continued to enjoy adventures with her family, especially the family beach vacations where she always made her special "Davis Family Vacation" cake. Affectionately known as MaMa, she was extremely proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was always delighted to be in their company.
Nell is survived by her daughters, Denie Crowder, Pam Corley (Don), Sandy Davis, Robin Youmans (Buddy); grandchildren, Reagan Crowder Whitmire (Dixon), Theron Crowder, Claire Crowder West (Eric), Kristen Crowder Goggin (Chase), Laura Corley Hurley (Thomas), and Raleigh Youmans; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her son-in-law, Donald Crowder; grandson, Bryan Corley; and four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, November 28, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. The family will receive friends at the church following the service and prior to entombment at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family expresses their deep appreciation to her care companions, Janice Patterson and Gretta Winningham for their care and compassion of Nell.
Memorials are suggested to Agape Hospice , or Mobile Meals of Spartanburg at mobile-meals.org .
Memories and messages may be shared on her tribute wall.
Whitaker Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Nell Davis.
