Olive Derrick Chapman, 94, of Little Mountain, died Monday, November 21, 2016 at her residence.
Born on August 24, 1922 in Irmo, she was a daughter of the late Page N. and Katie Chapman Derrick.
She was a homemaker and gardener. She worked in her vegetable garden until she was 92 and was twice honored as the Newberry County Master Gardener of the Year.
Mrs. Chapman was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a former Sunday School and weekday church school teacher.
She loved to cook and bake and her specialty was bread and cinnamon rolls.
Mrs. Chapman is survived by her daughter, Angela Gail Willis (Johnny) of Little Mountain; her grandchildren, who were her heart, Andrew Christian Waters and Ashlynne Grace Waters; siblings, Vernon Derrick of Aiken, Connie Bickley of Chapin, and Miriam Monts, Jofreida Hooker, and Wanda Allen (Clinton) all of Irmo; sisters-in-law, Mary Ruth Chapman and Shirby Chapman, both of Little Mountain; brothers-in-law, Gordon Hipp and Marconi Shealy, both of Irmo; and her care giver, Dorothy Gladney.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Waldo Mayer Chapman and her siblings, Herman Derrick, John Derrick, Page Kinard "Boots" Derrick, Margaret Bauknight, Aldaray McAndrews, Runette Still, Elizabeth Shealy, and Mary Hipp.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Carroll Pinner, III, Blue Ridge Hospice and her care giver, Sherrline Johnson for the special care that they gave to her.
Pallbearers will be, Kenneth Derrick, David Bouknight, John Wesley Derrick, Marion Page Shealy, Burt Hipp, and Dukes Hooker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday, November, 26, 2016 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brett Collins. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home, in Chapin.
