Oswaldo V. Garcia, 77, of Newberry died Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at his home with his family by
his side.
He was born in Huancayo, Peru on August 5, 1944 and was the son of the late Jacinto Garcia and
Natividad Monteblanco.
After serving as a congressman in Peru, God called Oswaldo and his wife, Enid, to California where he
began ministering at the Crystal Cathedral Church. He later received an invitation from the Methodist
Church to relocate to the southeastern United States to begin planting Hispanic communities of faith.
This journey would eventually bring him to Newberry, where he founded the Emmanuel Mercy Ministry.
Throughout his time as a Pastor, he was driven by a passion for helping the needy and encouraging
people in the strengthening of their faith. He was a man of God who gave of himself tirelessly in
serving others.
Oswaldo was kind, courageous and is remembered as a loving husband and the "best Dad
ever."
He is survived by his wife, Enid Gomez-Garcia; his daughter, Dr. Gisella E. Godoy of Chapin; his
sons, Dr. Jorge O. Garcia of Newberry, Jaime J. Garcia of Newberry, and Renzo Garcia of Johns Creek, GA;
his siblings Osilia Garcia, Bertha Garcia, Andres Garcia and Delfin Garcia, all in Peru; 10 Grandchildren; 2 Great-Grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held interment to follow at 4pm, Thursday, September 23rd in Morris Chapel Southern
Methodist Church Cemetery, 1189 New Hope RD, Pomaria, SC 29126.
