Pastor Frederick "Freddie" K. Lazzaro, 65, of Newberry, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born in Gary, Indiana on October 15, 1956, he was a son of Fred T. Lazzaro and Wanda Baran.
Freddie served his Lord and his community through his work in many different ways throughout his life. He worked with individuals with special needs at Whitten Center in Clinton for many years, and retired from the Newberry County School district as a Teacher's Assistant for those with special needs. Most recently, he accepted his true calling as a pastor and shared the word of God everywhere he could.
He was an active member of Glory Tabernacle Pentecostal Church in Newberry, SC, where he led the group "Young at Heart" along with his wife, Nancy. He had a background in broadcasting and communications, and would lend his skills to radio broadcast the Word to those who could not attend services in person. And whenever he could, he would visit with the residents of local nursing homes, sharing stories, sharing a meal, and sharing God's love.
Freddie was proud to be an American. He enjoyed baseball, and despite his wife's love of the Braves, his favorite team was the Chicago Cubs. He had a good sense of humor and enjoyed laughing with friends and family. Although he was directionally challenged at times, he could always find his "true north", which was God.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Ruff Silver Lazzaro; children, Daniel Lazzaro (Maria), Rebecca Lazzaro (Michael), Brandon Burke (Amanda), Amber Burke, and Dalton Burke; grandchildren, Guillermo Salgado-Martinez, Garrett Law, Natalie Colehour, Alanis, Bethany and Gabriel Hill, Gage Camden and John Michael Helms; sisters, Mary Anne Milak (Steve) and Michelle Baran; nephews, Steven Milak (Toni) and Mark Milak; niece, Natashia Ruff; great-nephews, Nikolas and Anthony Milak; great-nieces, Stefanie and Nektaria Milak; and numerous other family and friends. He is also survived by his beloved pets (babies).
Along with his parents, Freddie was preceded in death by a grandson, Bryson Lazzaro.
A celebration of life will be held at Glory Tabernacle on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at 2 PM, led by Pastors Joel and Lori Mundy. Visitation with the family will follow. Fred's life will be celebrated by honoring his love of the Lord, his wife, his family and all of God's people.
The family suggests memorials be made to Glory Tabernacle Church, 905 Pope St., Newberry SC 29108.
Memories and messages of comfort may be left for the family here on Freddie's tribute wall.
Whitaker Funeral Home is honored to assist the family.
