Obituary

Patricia Ann Kitchens — beloved wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend — passed away peacefully on Friday, August 27, 2021 at her home in Chapin, SC, surrounded by her loving family. She was 82. Ann was born on December 18, 1938, in Augusta, GA and was the daughter of the late Lila "Pop" Bell Hood. She shared 63 happy years married to Mintford L. Kitchens (Mel) who told her many times, each and every day, that he loved her to the moon and back. Ann lived a full life as a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a great cook and enjoyed baking and preparing meals for her family. Over the years, she collected a large library of cookbooks. She loved to watch cooking channels during her spare time. She had a love for nature, especially birds, and was gifted with a "green thumb". Most of all, she loved everything Christmas! Ann brought a ray of light into our lives which will not be forgotten and cannot be replaced. She was a loving soul and made an impact in many lives. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. Ann is survived by her husband, Mintford; children, Kathy Ann Kitchens of Chapin, SC; Deborah Kay Kitchens of Chapin, SC; Kimberly Dawn Mulkin (Richard) of Tolland CT; and Mintford Lamar Kitchens, Jr. (Kimberly) of Prosperity, SC; grandchildren, Joshua, Ashlee (Tony), Matthew, Michael, Mintford III (Nique), Justin and Eric; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Madisyn, Adalee, Brantley, Raylee, Jayce, Blakely and Aleia; her adored cousin, Marci Fulcher; in-laws, Myrna and Steve Redwine; Dinton and Faerl Kitchens; Richard and Sally Balkcum; and many other cherished family members. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Carole Balkcum and sister-in-law, Ernestine "Hop" Kitchens. The family invites you to visit with them on Friday, September 3 from 6:00-7:30 pm at the Whitaker Funeral Home, 939 Chapin Rd, Chapin, SC.
