Patricia Martin Cameron 78 of Saluda passed away at her residence after an extended illness on Jan. 12 2011. Born May 19 1932 in Silverstreet she was the daughter of the late Frank and Ida Longshore Martin of Newberry. Mrs. Cameron was a 1950 graduate of Silverstreet High School where she was valedictorian of her class. SHe continued her education at Columbia Hospital School of Nursing where she was a 1953 graduate receiving her R.N. degree. Mrs. Cameron was employed as a school nurse with Riverside School for two years but was best remembered by her work as a Public Home Health Nurse with D.H.E.C. Mrs. Cameron also known as "The FLorence Nightingale of Saluda County" began as the first and only home health nurse working for 26 years with D.H.E.C. Upper Savannah Health District. Serving alongside Dr. Allen C. Wise and Dr. Robert L. Sawyer she treated numerous residents of Saluda County and completed her career retiring as the home health team leader for Saluda and Edgefield counties. She also was a past board member of S.C. State employees association and an active member of the American Legion Auxillary serving all the veterans in the local area and nursing homes.A loving wife devoted mother sister daughter and friend she was married for 57 years to Melvin Wilmot Cameron of Saluda. In addition to her husband who was also her compassionate caregiver survivors include a son Dennis Melvin Cameron and his wife Evelyn of Clover; a daughter Patricia Lynn Cameron of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter-in-law Susan Ladell Cameron of Saluda. Survivors also include a sister Ruth Ausband (Horace Bryant) of Myrtle Beach; grandchildren Elizabeth (David) Hassen of Inman; Thomas (Aimee) Cameron of FLower Mound Tex. and Allie Louise Cameron of Charleston and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Alan Martin Cameron and brothers Francis Martin Sherod Martin Marion Martin James Martin and sisters Emily Martin Corley Betty Dorron Connelly and Etta Martin Benson. The family would also like to express their appreciation to the caring staff of Hospice Care of Tri-County and all caregivers agency of Saluda and special caregivers ROse Nicholson and Michelle Daniels.Visitation was held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ramey Funeral Home in Saluda with services at Saluda Baptist Church on Saturday Jan. 15 2011 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Saluda Baptist Church 112 West Wheeler Circle Saluda S.C. 29138 or Hospice Care of Tri-County 13795 C.R.
