Patrick Pat Joseph King Sr. 72 of 130 Dutch Point Road Chapin died Thursday March 07 2013 at his residence after a long almost miraculous battle with pancreatic cancer. The Rosary was prayed at 1:00 P.M. Saturday March 16 2013 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and the Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Rev. Andrew J. Vollkommer at 1:30 P.M. Friends were invited to visit with the family following the service. He was born on March 17 1940 in Kenosha WI a son of the late Benjamin and Marquerite Lawless King. Pat lived most of his youth in Shawnee Kansas graduating from St. Josephs High School. Pat served in the US Army and later worked in the American Embassy Commissary in Kabul Afghanistan. He continued his professional career with Caterpillar Tractor Company in Peoria IL; Electronic Data Systems in Dallas TX; and as Operations Manager for C& S Bank Computer Systems in Columbia SC. He retired as owner and operator of Rainbow Carpet Dyeing and Cleaning Company. Pat and his wife Marty were charter members of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church where he remained an active member. He was good at carpentry and built a home for his family in Chapin. He also enjoyed helping those in his neighborhood with their home projects. Pat had many hobbies but his favorites were golf and traveling. Whenever possible Pat was on the golf course and he treasured his Monday and Friday golf games at Timberlake. His traveling took him all over the world including Afghanistan Monrovia Liberia Australia and the Fiji Islands. For his 70th birthday he lived out a dream by celebrating his birthday and St. Patricks Day in Ireland with his family. Most recently he and Marty traveled to New Zealand another life-long dream of Pats. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Martha Marty Moon King of the residence; daughter Amy Ann (William) Cathey of Charlotte; son Patrick Joseph King Jr. of Wilmington; brothers Ben King Jr. David King and James King; and a sister Kathleen King. He was predeceased by a sister Mary Ellen King and a sister-in-law Yaja King.
