Patsy Ann Hawkins Shealy (July 14,1936 – January 30, 2026)
Patsy Ann Hawkins Shealy of Chapin transitioned from the Church Militant to the Church Triumphant on January 30, 2026. She was born in the Stoney Hill community of Newberry County to the late Sam Pat Hawkins and Annie Elizabeth Bowers Hawkins. An only child, she was surrounded early in life by aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Patsy graduated from Prosperity High School in 1954, entered nurse’s training at the Columbia Hospital and proudly attained the credential of registered nurse.
On September 7,1957, she married Robert Louis “Bob” Shealy of Chapin and the two began a lifelong journey based on a deep abiding love and service to God and others. Patsy’s practice of nursing included private duty and geriatric nursing as well as service as a school nurse at Chapin Elementary School. She provided medical care to fellow members of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church and to many in her community by monitoring blood pressure and temperature readings, cleaning minor wounds and always offering a gentle smile and sympathetic ear. She also served her church through the Altar Guild and bereavement team, preparing meals for families experiencing loss.
Surviving are sons Mike Shealy (Laurah) of Irmo and Robby Shealy (Dawn) of Chapin, grandchildren Drew (Kathleen), Grace, Bartlett (Mallory) and Betsy Miller (Kelsey) and great-grandchildren James Shealy, Arthur Shealy, Tucker Miller and Carson Miller.
Special thanks to Pastor Ron Philabaum and Glenda Lindler of Mount Horeb Lutheran Church and caregiver Cathy Shealy, RN. Also, thank you to Patsy’s sisters in law, Kay Shealy, Ann Shealy, Annette Stuck, Anne Shealy, Sharon Shealy and Peggy Frick who provided support during this journey. Further, thank you to the entire hospice team at Medical Services of America (MSA).
Memorials may be made to Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church in Chapin.
Patsy’s family will receive friends on Thursday, February 5th at 10:00am in the Mt. Horeb Fellowship Hall. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00am in the Sanctuary with burial at the Church’s cemetery, Pastor Ron Philabaum presiding.
All in attendance are welcome to return to the Mt. Horeb Fellowship Hall after the burial service for lunch because feeding and caring for others was one of Patsy’s ways of expressing love towards others.
