Obituary

Peggy Ann Stutts Rutherford passed gently on Friday September 25 2015. Born on July 22 1933 to John McKinley and Janie Brandon Stutts. She came from a large and loving family of six brothers and four sisters: Roy Herbert Lewis Robert Johnnie Barry Louise Sarah Jane & Helen. She was married to William F. Rutherford Jr. for more than 50 years prior to his passing. She was a devoted wife and mother of three boys and an infant daughter Ann. Visitation will be this Thursday 6pm-8pm at Whitaker Funeral Home in Chapin and the graveside service will be at Rosemont Cemetery in Newberry this Friday at 11am. It can be easily said that she spent her life raising and caring for her boys. She was affectionately known as Nana and Ms. Peggy to many that knew her. Her caring extended beyond her family. As a nurse for over 40 years 30 years were spent working at Lexington County Hospital. Her compassion and generosity spilled out into the community and benefited all those that came into contact with her. It has been said that she carried the sunshine in her pocket and if you ever needed some she would gladly supply it. Ms. Peggy loved the game of golf and treasured her golfing buddies. She was a very intelligent quick witted lady with a quiet gentle soul. Some may say that we lost her years ago to Alzheimers disease but to know her at all you know that she will forever be with you because that is how she lived her life. Peggy is survived by her three sons and their families: son William F. Rutherford III grandson William F. Rutherford IV (Gabrielle) granddaughter Brannon R. Lewis (John) and great-grandsons Keagan and Miles - Son Robert Drayton Rutherford and grandson Drayton Rutherford Son John H. Rutherford (London) grandsons Reece A. Rutherford and Gavin N. Rutherford. Pallbearers will be Wesley McMullan Steve Kane Bert Fields Brandon Stutts Alan Guess Shawn Powell Kerry Savage and Brian Berry. Honorary Caddies will be Ginger White Becky Lusk and Bert Woodard. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Alzheimers Association P.O.
