IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peter Donald
Gvozdas
July 16, 1945 – December 6, 2024
Peter Donald Gvozdas, aged 79, of Prosperity, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024, at MUSC Medical Center in Charleston.
Born on July 16, 1945, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Peter was the son of the late Peter and Elizabeth Gvozdas. He was a proud graduate of Coughlin High School and Syracuse University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Peter went on to serve in the United States Navy, obtained a Master's degree in Taxation and became a Certified Public Accountant. He worked for the USDA in Washington D.C. for over 30 years.
Peter was known for his intelligence, quick wit, and sense of humor. He enjoyed entertaining friends and family with jokes, a glass of fine bourbon, and a good meal. He didn't want to wait on dessert and his love for chocolate was well-known, often referring to it as his "medicine." He had a genuine love for music and movies and enjoyed sharing them with others.
An avid sports fan, particularly of Syracuse University, Peter was also a keen card player. He was a member of a local poker group and looked forward to their weekly games. His competitive nature extended to all games, relishing in the joy of winning.
Above all, Peter was a devoted family man. He cherished family traditions and ensured they were passed down to his children and grandchildren. Affectionately referred to as "Pa" by his grandchildren, he leaves a legacy of love and fond memories in the hearts of his family.
He is survived by his wife, of 51 years, Carolyn Gvozdas; sons, Peter Gvozdas (Alivia), Jason Gvozdas (Jaimie) and Scott Gvozdas (Meredith); daughter, Arianne Bauserman (Homer); grandchildren, Isabelle Gvozdas, Margaret Gvozdas, Mary Scott Gvozdas, Sophia Bauserman, Genevieve Gvozdas, Halle Bauserman, and Wittman Gvozdas; brother, Richard Gvozdas (Jan); sister-in-law, Kathleen Gvozdas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Peter was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Gvozdas.
