Obituary

Peter C. "Pete" Steininger, age 77, of Prosperity, died February 3, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his family. Born February 1, 1946 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was a son of the late Fredrick and Ruth Linnert Steininger. He was married to Vickie Bray Steininger.

Pete was known for his patriotism and his strong work ethic. A Navy veteran and who fought in the Vietnam War, he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Silver Star, and US Service Medal. He was an expert marksman and received a letter from General Wiliam "Westy" Westmoreland for outstanding performance.

In his professional life, Pete worked for the Bob Evans Corporate Headquarters in Columbus, OH, retiring as a Senior Vice President and Director of Construction after 30 years of committed employment. It was no surprise that he often gave directions based on the nearest Bob Evans location.

He served for many years as a board member for The Youth for Christ Foundation.

He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. Pete was a dedicated golfer who spent countless hours perfecting his swing and pursuing his passion for the sport. His love for the game was contagious, inspiring those around him to pick up a club and join in. He found joy in boating and working in the yard or garden - planting flowers and keeping the yard looking beautiful. He enjoyed telling jokes and making people laugh; and always had a joke on hand he could pull out for any occasion. He also loved beach boys music and dancing. Anytime there was an event, wedding, or daddy-daughter dance, he was on the dance floor having fun. In his retirement years, he greatly enjoyed life on Lake Murray. Even on cold, wet days, he insisted it was "70 degrees and sunny."

He was also a teacher at heart and took every opportunity to show others how to be their best – water skiing, golf, tennis, cars, boats, or even how to hold a flashlight the right way. He could not have a conversation without telling you a better way to do whatever you were doing, even if you already knew how. His sharing of wisdom was expected – and ultimately, appreciated.

Above all else, Pete loved his family. He was a tireless worker who taught his children and grandchildren the values of hard work and perseverance. He was a supportive Dad who showed up for anything sports related - every recital, dance competition, and tennis match. He enjoyed working hard to help prepare for when the kids were all coming and for gatherings with friends. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, Vickie, Pete is survived by his children Chris Steininger (Jennifer), Gretchen Severence (Rick), Aaron Steininger (Kerri), Amanda Jividen, Justin Steininger, Jacob Steininger, and Jessika Bell (Dalton); his siblings Cathy Reid, Rick Steininger, Chris Steininger (Edna), and Alex Steininger (Martha); grandchildren Joe, Cassidy, Campbell, Sutton, Findley, Chase, Brayden, Joshua, Theo, Kailee, Nichole, Kaleb, Knox, Remington, Jeremiah, Sullivan, Landon, Madison, Allison, and Mason; and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Jack Reid.

A private memorial celebration is being planned for a future date.
