Phyllis Hall Dobrovolny Burch, 100, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017 in Newberry.
She was a lifelong resident of Nebraska moving to South Carolina in 2012 to live with family.
Born August 20, 1916, in North Bend, Nebraska she ranched for over 50 years near O'Neil, NE, with her first husband. During that time she experienced the Great Depression, the central plains Dust Bowl, ranched with true "cowboys", plowed with horse drawn equipment, rode her horse to school and witnessed the coming of electricity to the ranching community.
She was a member of the Eastern Star since 1946 serving in many offices including Worthy Matron.
Mrs. Burch is survived by her husband of 21 years, Benjamin A. Burch, Jr; step-son, Bob Burch (Ann) of Prosperity; granddaughter, Laura Mitchell (Chris) of Prosperity; grandsons, Chad Cox (Jeannie) of Newberry, Todd Cox (Laura) of Kapolei, HI, Colin Burch (Kim) of Fredericksburg, VA and Christopher Burch (Jennifer) of Houston, TX; great grandchildren, Evan Lovelady, Jacob Caulder, Dakota Cox, Remington Cox, Reid Webster, Abby Webster, Keyna Cox, Forrest Shank, Tatum Cox and Lily Cox.
She remained active attending her great grandchildren's baseball & soccer games, pageants, family dinners and social outings.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John & Viola Hall; her first husband, Lawrence Dobrovolny; a sister Laverne H. Dobrovolny; and three brothers, Lowel, Wayne and Marvin Hall.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held Friday, July 28, 2017 at 3:00 PM with a visitation to follow at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel in Newberry.
Burial will be in O'Neill, Nebraska.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Newberry Chapter 226, Order of the Eastern Star, c/o Linda Grant, 153 Lake Vista Dr., Chapin, SC 29036
