Obituary

Ralph D. Don Schumpert 70 of 3825 Mt. Bethel Garmany Road Newberry died Tuesday July 20 2010 at White Oak Manor. Born in Lexington County on March 17 1940 he was a son of the late Horace and Clara Belle Shealy Schumpert. Mr. Schumpert was a retired electrician with Honeywell attended Lebanon United Methodist Church and served six years in the National Guard. Don was an avid golfer and fisherman but his true passion was traveling and RV camping. Family and friends have many treasured memories from their trips together. He is survived by his wife Betty Ruff Schumpert; loving step-children and their spouses Phil and Deborah Ruff of Prosperity Marcia and Mike Long of Newberry Sheryl and Mike Rogers of Prosperity and Kevin and Susan Ruff of Irmo; sister and brother-in-law Carroll and Kitt Flake of West Richland WA; brother Raymond Schumpert of Columbia; twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three sisters two brothers and a granddaughter. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. David Inman. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M Friday at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry.Active pallbearers are his grandsons. Honorary pallbearer is Ron Oxner. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff of White Oak Manor for their extraordinary care and heartfelt compassion for both Mr. Schumpert and the family. The family requests memorials be made the American Diabetes Association SC Affiliate 2711 Middleburg Dr. Suite 110 Columbia SC 29204.
