Raye Humphries Holmes, 90, of Newberry, died Friday, September 28, 2018 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home. Born on March 11, 1928 in Cleveland County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Ferris C. Humphries, Sr. and Bertha Ledford Humphries. Raye was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She was a long-time officer and mainstay at Carter and Holmes Orchids. She supported the memberships of her husband and son in the Newberry Rotary Club and became a Paul Harris Fellow She is survived by her son, Owen M. "Mac" Holmes, IV, his wife Kathryn Elizabeth Brooker and many nieces and nephews that she loved very much. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Owen M. Holmes, III, her parents, her sisters; Ella Jane and Edna Humphries, Ruth H. Stephens and Clara H. Hughes, and brother; Edward Dwight Humphries, Sr., Herbert B Humphries, Sr., and F. C. Humphries, Jr. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Jimmy Counts and Rev. Patsy Bivens. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
