Reba Shealy Lester, 95, of Newberry died Friday, October 22, 2021 at White Oak Manor.
Reba was born on May 3, 1926 at home in the Mollohon Mill village to the late Olin O'Neal and Cora Wise Shealy. She was one of thirteen children and when not walking the six-mile round trip to school, in school, or studying, she was busy gardening, doing household chores, tending the hogs and cows, and taking care of her younger siblings.
On October 17, 1942 she married George Pierce Lester, Jr. at the home of Rev. J.B. Harmon. Together she and George created a life together and a home for their two children, Ann and Kirby Lester.
She worked in the Mollohon and Oakland Cotton Mills and was the first female supervisor hired by the Kendall Company.
Reba was strong willed and would not hesitate to tell you what she thought. And she was a kind and caring woman, and will be remembered for the love she showed everyone. Always at the top of her priorities was family. Not only did she keep close tabs on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's baseball teams, but she made up her own score cards and kept up with numerous statistics so that she could engage in conversations.
She had a strong faith and was an active member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church for as long as she was able. Reba's life was not perfect and she had some bad times, but when asked to choose one word to describe her life, she said 'wonderful.'
Reba is survived by her children, Ann (Buddy) Threatt and Kirby (Linda) Lester; grandchildren, Bart (Michaela) Threatt and Angela (Scottie) Hawkins; step grand-child, Dawn Crowley; great-grandchildren, Megan (Matt) Kennamer and Justin (Kara) Hawkins and Victoria and Kaitlin Threatt; step great grand-children Hannah (Will) Morgan, Gracie Nolff, April Richardson, Josh Richardson, Krystal Crowley; sister, Myra Ruth Frick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings, Malcom Eugene Shealy, Sara Roberta Golden, Gladys Mildred Clamp, Mary Anna Shealy, Dorothy Odet Stewart, George Benet Shealy, Ralph Clayton Shealy, Ray Ellis Shealy, and John Pat Shealy.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 on October 24, 2021 conducted by the Rev. Jason Schafer at St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will take place from 2:00-3:30 PM on Sunday, October 24, 2021 in the fellowship hall at St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
Active pallbearers will be Al Shealy, Steve Shealy, Randy Nobles, Wayne Golden, Scottie Hawkins and Bart Threatt.
The family suggests memorials be made the St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 4056 St. Luke's Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127.
