To view or download the service bulletin "Click Here" Reta Lovine Allison Bishop, 80, of Chapin, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022. Mrs. Bishop was born July 31, 1941, to the late Joseph Burgin Allison and Josephine Lucille Gilliam Allison Wilson in Old Fort, North Carolina. Mrs. Bishop was a graduate of Brevard College and Western Carolina University (College). She taught in Western North Carolina for more than 25 years, teaching K-3rd grades. She believed that reading was the foundation for a child's success and dearly loved seeing the world open up for young students as words came to life on a page. It is estimated that during her career and in retirement she taught almost 1,000 children to read. Learning and teaching were her passion, and she made it a point to learn something every day and share with those around her. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her stepfather, William "Raynous" Wilson; and her sister, Joan Allison Hyatt. Mrs. Bishop is survived by her children, Bonnie Lovine Bishop Caver (Russell) and Joey Vernon Bishop (Deena Summer); her sister, Mary Jo Allison Stone; and grandchildren, Landry Russell Caver, Ella Cathryn Bishop, and Hogan Louis Caver. The family would like to send their thoughts of appreciation to the staff of the Haltiwanger Building and the Nursing and Rehab Center for their care of Mrs. Bishop during her stay at The Heritage at Lowman. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022, at a private location at 4:00 p.m. with the Rev. Ralph Hill officiating.
