Obituary

Rev. Clarence Luther Richardson Sr. 98 of White Rock SC died Thursday November 18 2010 at The Heritage at Lowman. Rev. Richardson was born on September 20 1912 in Richland County son of the late Julia Derrick and Julius P. Richardson. He grew up in the Dutch Fork area of South Carolina and was a graduate of Newberry College and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. He did further graduate studies at Gettysburg Seminary. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Irmo. Rev. Richardson served as an ordained pastor for 73 years serving in Erhardt Parish SC; Edinburg Parish VA; Glade Creek Lutheran Church Blue Ridge VA; St. Philips Lutheran Church Newberry SC; Mt. Herman Lutheran Church Peak SC; Bethany Lutheran Church Red Bank SC and Macedonia Lutheran Church Prosperity SC. He was mission developer for St. Paul Lutheran Church Gaffney SC. In addition to his years of pastoring he will be remembered for the new church buildings at St. Philips Mt. Herman and Macedonia and for the lakeside services he started at Macedonia in Prosperity. Rev. Richardson is survived by his wife of 73 years Floy Harmon Richardson; daughters Martha Ann Richardson of White Rock and Julia Richardson Parker of Columbus OH; sons Clarence L. Richardson Jr. and wife Alice of Lexington and Joseph P. Richardson of Rockville MD; sister Elizabeth Betty R. Fulmer of Newberry; five grandchildren Wendi (Jeff Butler) Jennifer (Michael Harley) Spence (Tiffany) Paul and Alexander; and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers Walter Ralph and Roy Richardson. Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday at St. Johns Lutheran Church Irmo by Rev. Herman R. Yoos Bishop of the SC Synod Rev. Vickie Powell Chaplain of Lutheran Hospice Midlands Rev. Christine Parham Chaplain of The Heritage at Lowman and Rev. Douglas Graul Pastor of St. Johns Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Monday at Whitaker Funeral Home Chapin. Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.
