Rev. Dr. Joseph Franklin "Frank" Beard, Sr., 90, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away March 16, 2021 at Summer Breeze Senior Living in Savannah, Georgia.
Born in Rockingham, North Carolina, he was the son of the late James Neal and Martha Whiteside Beard. He was predeceased by his wife, Nancy Burnett Beard.
Frank grew up in Newberry, South Carolina, where he attended Newberry High School. He later attended Erskine College where he met his wife, Nancy Burnett. He continued his education at Erskine Theological Seminary.
After Frank's ordination into the ministry, he and Nancy served congregations in North Carolina, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. They retired to Irmo, South Carolina and then Savannah, Georgia.
Frank is survived by his sons Bob (Debra) Beard of Newberry, South Carolina and Glenn (Dale) Beard of Orange Beach, Alabama, and her daughter Amy (Wayne) Durden of Savannah, Georgia. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also, surviving is his brother, Jim (Eleanor) of Sumter, South Carolina. He was predeceased by his son Joe Beard, grandson David Beard and great-grandson Brayden Stevenson.
Frank's life will be celebrated by his family in a private service led by Rev. Dr. C. Ronald Beard in Newberry, South Carolina.
