The Reverend Doctor Lawton Daugherty died April 4 2010 at his residence in Hull GA at the age of 80. Dr. Daugherty served as an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church US for more than 55 years. He was a member of Trinity Presbytery in S.C. He served pastorates in Sullivans Island Kinards and Abbeville S.C. Savannah Elberton and Hartwell GA and Salem VA.Born in Atlanta GA as the son of Carl Francis and Susan Lawton Daugherty Dr. Daugherty graduated from North Fulton High School in 1948. He completed his Bachelor of Arts at Presbyterian College in Clinton SC in 1952. He received his Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur GA in 1954. In 1981 he received a Doctor of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary in Chicago IL. Dr. Daugherty is survived by his wife of 56 years the former Florence Hunt Patterson. He is also survived by their five children; David L. Daugherty of Bowman GA Dr. E. Payson Daugherty MD of Birmingham AL Patterson (Pat) D. Bullard of Dunwoody GA Susan D. Brown of High Point NC and Alice D. Harris of Loganville GA. Dr. Daugherty is also survived by his nine grandchildren and two great granddaughters. Dr. Daugherty leaves three siblings as well. They are Susan L. Daugherty of Austell GA Edward Daugherty and William Daugherty of Atlanta GA. He is predeceased by his brother C. Francis Daugherty Jr. The family did receive visitors at Whitaker Funeral Home 1704 College Street in Newberry SC. Tuesday April 6 6:00 8:00 p.m. Memorial Services for Dr. Daugherty were held at The Little River Dominick Presbyterian Church Hwy 56 Kinards S.C. on Wednesday April 7 2010 at 2:00 p.m. and at the Sharon Presbyterian Church Sharon Drive Hartwell GA on Thursday April 8 2010 at 3:00 p.m.Pallbearers were The Grandchildren: Christian Daugherty Craig Daugherty Brooke Sleeper Laura Daugherty Adam Bullard Derek Bullard Hannah Bullard Ben Thornton Leah Brown Stephens Virginia Daugherty and Ben Sleeper.
