Rev. George T. Moore, passed away peacefully next to his wife of almost 75 years, Friday, December 22, 2017.
Born August 25, 1920, in Greenville County, South Carolina, on his grandfather's farm, he was a Clemson graduate, served overseas as an Architect in World War II, and owned his own architecture business in Savannah, Georgia. He entered the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in 1952. Married to Elizabeth S. Moore and with four sons, he became a Lutheran Missionary to Liberia, West Africa. He graduated from the Seminary and was ordained in 1957. He and his family returned to Liberia for another term cut short by health issues with his wife. Over the next 30 years, George served five congregations in North and South Carolina, retiring in 1985. He continued to serve the Lutheran churches, published seven books, guided tours of the Holy Lands, and preached his last sermon at age 93. He did devotions at Brookdale NE, Hickory, every Tuesday. His last devotional gathering occurred two days before his death. His last book was his own autobiography entitled, "I walked with Angels", printed in 2017.
The Rev. George T. Moore, is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; one remaining son, Johnnie S. Moore; daughters-in-law, Vickie Moore and Jane Moore. He has eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he is preceded by his sons, George Moore Jr., William Moore, and Alex Moore.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 10 to 10:45a.m., at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. The funeral service will follow at 11a.m., with the Rev. Ryan Ray officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m., at St. David Lutheran Church Cemetery, in West Columbia, South Carolina.
