Rev. Henry Brett Collins, 56, returned home to the Lord in the early hours of Wednesday morning, October 13 at Lexington Medical Center. Brett will forever be remembered as a loving husband, a wonderful father, son, and brother, and a selfless servant to his community and congregation. Brett was born on December 31, 1964 in Columbia. He was the son of Pat Collins and the late Tom Collins, Jr. He graduated from Irmo High School in 1983, and continued on to Newberry College where he played on the baseball team and earned a bachelor's degree in 1985. While at Newberry, he met his soulmate, Amy, and they married in 1989. After working several years as a Drug and Alcohol counselor, Brett attended the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbia, SC where he graduated with a Masters of Divinity in 2000. Brett began his stewardship as the pastor of Summer Memorial Lutheran Church in Newberry before moving to White Rock as the pastor at Bethel Lutheran Church. In 2013, he became the pastor at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where he served until his final days. Throughout all of this, Brett defeated Leukemia at the age of 16 and multiple recurring brain tumors. At every location, Brett was known as a pastor who loved the people he served and was unafraid to challenge his congregation to be bold in their faith. He avidly enjoyed leading the church youth group, acting as a mentor and role model to all those he interacted with. Brett was actively involved in the Camp Kemo organization at Prisma Health Richland and loved spending his time with the staff and children. He loved hunting and fishing, vacations with his family, and going to baseball games. He will be remembered for the everlasting impact he had on those he served and the boundless faith that he inspired. Brett is survived by his wife, Amy Collins of Little Mountain; Children, BJ Collins (Kayla) of Greenville and Caroline Attaway (Lane) of Little Mountain; Mother, Pat Collins of Chapin; Brother, Tom Collins (Catherine) of Myrtle Beach; Father and Mother-in-Law Brady and Becky Porth of Lexington; Brother-in-Law Brady Porth (Valerie) of Lexington; Sister-in-Law Ginger Cline (Jason) of Chapin; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Tom Collins, Jr. of Chapin. A visitation will be held Saturday, October 16 from 4-6 pm in the Trinity Life Center at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Mountain. A worship service celebrating his life will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, October 17 at Holy Trinity.
