Richard Hinkle Amick, 94, passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at his home.
Born on January 3, 1927 in Chapin, he was a son of the late Silas and Minnie Lindler Amick. He attended St. Thomas Lutheran Church as a child and after marriage to his wife, Elizabeth, he became a member of St. Peter "Piney Woods" Lutheran Church. He joined the choir and participated for many years.
Richard loved music and was a gifted musician. While he played several different instruments, his favorite was always his fiddle. He also played in several country music bands, the most recent being The Country Gentleman. They were well known in the square dance communities of Peak, Dutch Fork and Saluda.
He was a carpenter by trade and worked the family farm. He retired from The University of South Carolina Maintenance Department.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Elizabeth Hill Amick; daughters, Kathy (Derrick) Lee, Kaye (Charles) Shealy, Faye Shealy, and Debra Amick; grandchildren, Kevin (Wendy) Shealy, Julie (Josh) Henson, Stewart (Lindy) Lee, Allison (Ric) Patton, Jason (Betsy) Shealy, and Kelli (Theron) Robinson; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Jennifer Shealy, Katelyn and Fitz Patton, Kiarin Dixon, William, Andrew, David and Eleanor Shealy, Zack Henson, and Willow and Theodore Robinson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was the last surviving child of Silas and Minnie Amick. He was predeceased by seven brothers, Lawrence, Willard, Homer, Ansel, Elmer, Gary, and S.W; three sisters, Guessie Mae Connelly, Merikey "Becky" Cannon, and Elberta Frick; and a son-in-law, Jerald Shealy.
Services will be held at 11 AM Monday, December 27, 2021 at St. Peter Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. David Tholstrup. Interment will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service, starting at 10 AM, in the church.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Shealy, Stewart Lee, Theron Robinson, Josh Henson, Carroll Amick, Glenn Amick, David Connelly, Jimmy Southerland.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joey Young, Chuck Byrd, Jacque Kendall, Chelsea Hailey, Bobbye and Jerry Mitchell, and Ira Keever.
The family expresses their sincere gratitude and thanks to everyone for their prayers and many acts of kindness at the passing of their loved one. A very special thank you to Amedisys Hospice for all the hours of support and help they provided.
