Richard Eugene “Dick” Shealy, 89, of Little Mountain, SC, passed away in his home surrounded by family on Friday, April 10, 2026.
Born on July 16, 1936, in Chapin, he was the son of the late Oscar Roland and Mary Sites Shealy. Dick was a long-time member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, Mason of Little Mountain Masonic Lodge #281, Order of the Eastern Star #276, and received his 50-year Master Mason pin on October 13, 2007.
A dedicated family man above all else, Dick’s greatest joy was found in the presence of those he loved. He was a constant source of support, wisdom and quick wit for his family, but he truly lit up when it came to children.
When he wasn’t with his family, you could usually find him in the woods or casting a fishing line. An avid hunter and true outdoorsman, stories from his hunting adventures will be cherished for years to come. Dick was one of the founding fathers of the Cook’s Mountain Hunting Club.
In his younger years, he built houses for J. Lewis Mosley. Dick furthered his career, entering the commercial construction industry as a commercial construction superintendent for McCrory Construction Company and retired after 30 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of over 67 years, Carolyn R. Shealy, daughter Adriane Shealy (Derrill Frick), and son Richard Eugene “Ricky” Shealy, Jr. (Casey Sherwood), all of Little Mountain, SC, and numerous nieces and nephews, who will continue to carry his legacy of kindness, humor and family emphasis.
Dick was predeceased in death by his sisters, Eva Pearl Shealy, Earline Wessinger (Wendell), Martha “Mot” Riddle (James “Jack”), Doris “Dot” Monts (Heyward); brothers, Roland (Gladys), Dewey (Ruby), and Carroll "Buddy" (Dot) Shealy.
Funeral services will be conducted at Monday, April 13th at 3:30pm at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church by the Reverend Steve Counts and Reverend Cathy Fanslau, followed by burial service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service.
In leu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 816 Mt. Tabor Road, Little Mountain, SC 29075 or to the Little Mountain Fire and Rescue Squad, 219 N. Boundary Street, Little Mountain, SC 29075.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Bernado and his staff at Bernado Hospice Care for their care, compassion, love, and support and the many caregivers of Angel Care of Newberry for their care. We would also like to thank Denise Pitts for her exceptional devotion, love and compassion to Dick at home.
Active pallbearers will be Jerry Shealy, Thurston Frick, Doug Shealy, Johnny Riddle, Jody Riddle, and Cody Page.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Cooks Mountain Hunting Club, Little Mountain Hunting Club and McCrory Construction Company.
Memories and messages may be shared with the family on his tribute page.
Whitaker Funeral Home is honored to serve the Shealy family.
