Robert R.. "Bob" Weigold, Jr., 90, of Chapin, SC, was surrounded by his loving family when he returned to the Lord on July 4, 2016.
He was born to the late Robert R. Weigold, Sr. and Gladys Pulver Weigold in Winsted, CT in 1926. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 35 years, LaVerne Dorothea Outcalt Weigold in 1988. Also predeceasing him were his sisters, Evelyn Crane and Dorothy Hoffman.
Robert was a 1952 graduate of the University of Connecticut. He was a World War II Army veteran enlisting in 1945 and serving honorably for two years.
Affectionately referred to as Grandpa Bob, Robert was well known to many in the Toms River, NJ area from his teaching days at Toms River High School from 1952 to 1968, and also at Ocean County College as a Professor of English from 1966 to 1989.
He is survived by his sister, Frances Green, 97, of Longmont, CO; his sons, Deacon Greg Weigold (Maureen) of Chapin, SC, Bruce Weigold (Carol) of Tucson, AZ and Dr. Scott Weigold (Allison) of Corona, CA; his grandchildren, Megan Shealy (Drew) of Irmo, SC, Capt. Benjamin Weigold (Beverly) stationed at Kadena AFB in Okinawa, Timothy Weigold (Tanya) of Winnsboro, SC, Whitney and Haley Weigold of Tucson, AZ; and his great-grandchildren, Ian and Kylee Shealy of Irmo, SC.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, especially Cheryl Sears of Colorado, Janis McCord of Florida, Betty Magyar of Connecticut and Joann Seddons of Connecticut. Late in life he had a special place in his heart for a friend, "Mama" Sue Macy who predeceased him.
Bob, or Grandpa, as many knew him in Chapin, SC, had many talents and favorite past times. Playing cards, watching game shows, singing, and acting were particular favorites. He was also gifted with a wonderful sense of humor. He found special joy in getting to know his great-grandchildren, Ian and Kylee.
Per his wishes, he will be cremated and a private graveside ceremony will be held in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church Cemetery in Chapin, SC.
