IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert "Bobby" L.
Forbis
April 14, 1936 – February 18, 2025
Robert "Bobby" Lewis Forbis, 88, of Newberry, died Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home, Newberry, South Carolina.
Born in Kings Mountain, NC on April 14, 1936, he was a son of the late Robert Samuel and Kate Huffstetler Forbis. He was the husband of the late Peggy Dickert Forbis.
After being drafted into the United States Army and serving his country, he moved to Newberry where he began working at the Market Basket. Sometime while working at the Market Basket, he met and fell in love with his late wife, Peggy Dickert Forbis, and they joined The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. Eventually, he left the Market Basket and drove an oil truck for Kunkle Oil Co for almost 40 years from where he retired. Before retirement, he joined Summer Memorial Lutheran Church where his daughter and family have been members, as well as his companion, Julia Counts.
Bobby was a wonderful loving husband and father. He was a man that enjoyed life and always cared for his loved ones and friends. Although he was a man of few words, he was a fun-loving man that could always make you smile.
Some of his hobbies were carpentry/woodwork but he especially loved working on getting his "Grasshopper", a 1931 Ford Model A, ready to ride in. He loved camping and loved to visit Cades Cove and the mountains. He and Peggy were members of the Mid Carolina Twirlers, a square-dancing group, and the Hoover Nuts, a round dancing group. They enjoyed their time traveling with their friends, the Onion Bunch. They were a very special group to them both.
He is survived by his daughter, Connie Kesler (Mark); granddaughter, Lexie Kesler Brown (Dalton); grandson, Adam Kesler; brothers, Phillip Forbis (Teri) and Doug Forbis (Sarah); brother-in-law, Ronnie Dickert, Sr and sister-in-law, Sandra C Dickert and his companion of 17 years, Julia Counts and her family Laura & Jimmy Dallas, Mikayla Dallas, Hunter Dallas, Meredith Campitello (Joey and baby Joseph), Bridget and Woody Prior, Courtney Stafford, Logan Stafford, Mackenzie Stafford Stonehill (Justin and baby Julia).
He was predeceased by Daniel C Dickert, Sr, Lera Duncan Dickert his in laws, Susan Dickert Thomas sister-in-law, Rosemarie Cavanaugh Dickert, sister-in-law and Daniel C Dickert Jr. brother-in-law.
