Obituary

Robert C. "Bob" Rand, 89, died Friday, December 23, 2016 at his residence in Chapin. Born on February 28, 1927 in Presque Isle, Maine, he was a son of the late Wallace and Lucy Rand. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Rand was a former employee of Van Lott, Inc. and was a faithful member of White Rock Baptist Church where he was a "Tuesday Crew" volunteer. He was a hardworking man throughout his life. He was a loving man, a dear husband and father, a father who accepted his step-children as his own. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Dorothy M Rand; daughters, Joyce Allen (Phillip) of Columbia, Debbie Trexler (Leroy) of McDonough, GA, Sharon Barnett (Douglas) of Chapin, and Sheryl Santelmann (Douglas) of Jacksonville, FL; sisters Janette Barker, Gail Bull, Marie Dennet, Edwina Stairs, and Margaret Turner; brothers, Harold Rand and Gary Rand; grandchildren Christina Unekis (Stephen), Angela Allen, Michelle Cone (Mike), Michael Trexler, Elyssa Barnett, Jenna Barnett, Ben Barnett, and James Barnett; and great grandchildren, Zechariah Wallace, Alexa Unekis, Joshua Unekis, Connor Cone, and Cayla Cone. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Lint Rand; a son, Robert C. "Buddy" Rand II; sisters, Ellen Lewin, Shirley Rand and Sarah Knox; and brothers, Mac Rand, Weldon Rand, and Alex Rand. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at White Rock Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Glenn Day and Rev. Richard Taylor. Interment with military honors will follow in Dutch Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at White Rock Baptist Church from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to the service on Thursday. Active pallbearers will be Al Collins, Stephen Unekis, Lee Brookins, Douglas Santelmann, Doyle Collins, and Dan Wessinger. Honorary pallbearers will be Harvell Spence, Wallace Hubbard, Bob Haimbaugh, Gordon Sparks, Bobby Sharpe, Tom Price, Jim Postell and Dave Postell. Memorials are suggested to go to the White Rock Baptist Church debt retirement fund. Mr. Rand's family thanks Heartstrings Hospice and other caregivers during Bob's extended illness.
