Ronnie E. Koon 63 of 837 Koon Trestle Road Pomaria died Saturday July 9 2011 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 30 1947 in Newberry County a son of the late Eldredge B. and Argyra Wilson Koon. He was a graduate of Newberry College and received his Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of South Carolina. He taught math at Newberry High School Newberry College Swansea High School Lexington High School and Midlands Technical College. After his disability retirement from teaching he became very involved with flower arranging and gardening. He did many weddings funerals urns and church altar vases. This and playing Bingo provided him with many happy times. Mr. Koon was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he was a former member of the Congregational Council and he was also a member of various educational associations. He is survived by a sister Frances K. (David) Bouknight of Leesville and 2 brothers Jerry W. Koon of Leesville and C. Randall (Lisa) Koon of Pomaria; nieces and nephews Dave (Lisa) Bouknight Pam (David) Lowrance Walt Bouknight and Katie Koon; and great nieces and nephews Will and Carter Bouknight and Morgan and Charlie Lowrance. Funeral services were conducted at 4:00 PM Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brent Nichols and the Rev. Mitch Evans. Interment did follow in the church cemetery. The family did receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Edwin Dowd Mike Bowers Jimmy Lindler Johnny Wilson Jimmy Richardson Stephen Werts Carroll Koon Paul Bouknight Jason Fulmer and David Wilson III. Honorary pallbearers were Jo Ann Richardson Betty Kay Richardson Dr. Oscar Lovelace Pearl Rosemond Ruby Lee Vernon and Mary Livingston and the Monday afternoon and the Tuesday and Wednesday morning bingo players.
