Obituary

Rufus Loyd Chapman 86 of Little Mountain died Tuesday June 10 2014 at Providence Hospital. Born on Sept. 29 1927 in Little Mountain he was a son of the late W. Walter and Annie Lee Mayer Chapman. Mr. Chapman was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired as a Post Supervisor from Fort Jackson and was a recipient of many awards including the Commanders Award for civil service. Some of his happiest moments were spent in his garden growing vegetables for family and friends. He was an active member of and former council member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Little Mountain. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Shirby Adams Chapman; daughter Debra Wieters (James) of Chapin; sons Louie Chapman (Velvet) Allen Chapman (Linda) and Kelvin Chapman (Amy Elliott) all of Little Mountain; 11 grandchildren; and his twin brother J. Cloyd Chapman of Prosperity. He was predeceased by a sister Mary Annie McDaniel and brothers Andrew and Waldo Chapman. Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 PM Friday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brett Collins. Interment with military honors did follow in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Chapin. Pallbearers was Anthony Chapman Dalton Chapman Tony Chapman Carey Chapman Kenneth Chapman Rodney Chapman David Dewar and Marwan Dahdouh. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Mens Sunday School Class Memorial expressions are suggested to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund P.O. Box 186 Little Mountain SC 29075 The family has been deeply moved by the outpouring of love and support they have received during Loyds illness and death. They extend a Special Thanks to the doctors and staff of Providence Hospital for all the loving care and compassion shown during his stay.
