Ruth E. Cromarty 88 of Chapin SC died September 3 2012 at Lexington Extended Care. Born on October 13 1923 in Ellicott City Maryland she was a daughter of the late Johannes and Gertrude Schulz immigrants from Buchholz Germany. Ruth grew up in Long Island New York attended The Cove School a one room school often visited by Teddy Roosevelts mother and graduated from Oyster Bay High School in 1941. During World War II she worked for the Republic Aircraft Company and in 1947 she married the late Woodrow Wilson Cromarty. Together they raised their family on Long Island first in Nassau Shores and later in Amityville. In the mid 1950s they purchased a camp in Indian Lake New York in the Adirondack Mountains and moved there in 1973 following retirement. They continued to enjoy traveling to Myrtle Beach SC or to Florida during the winter months and in 2003 they moved to Chapin SC to be near their daughter and to enjoy milder weather year round. Ruth took great pleasure in helping others in nurturing her grandchildren and in reading and knitting. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Joan and Robert St. Onge of Leesville SC; son and daughter-in-law Woodrow W. II and Mary Ann Cromarty of Indian Lake NY; brother Kurt Schulz of Hudson Florida; grandchildren Jennifer St. Onge Wilson of Louisville CO Allison St. Onge Hodell of Bloomfield CO Mary Louise St.Onge of Denver CO; Woodrow W. Cromarty III of N. Babylon NY and Tara Cromarty of Sidney Australia; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday September 10 2012 at DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home Mechanicville NY. Interment was in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 12:30 P.M. Her family did serve as pallbearers.
