Sara Byrd Franklin, 92, of Newberry, SC died Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Springfield Place. She was the wife of the late William H. Franklin, Jr. Sara was born on February 27, 1926 in Rock Hill, SC to the late Rev. R. D. Byrd, Sr. and Vinnie Brown Byrd. In 1988, she retired from Purcells after 41 years of service. She was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer where she had belonged to the Elizabeth Circle of WELCA and to the George B. Cromer Bible Class. She was a kind loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her son, William H. "Bill" Franklin, III and wife Carolyn of Edisto Beach; grandchildren, Brian D. Franklin and wife Monica of Gilbert, Kevin A. Franklin and wife Karen of Clemson; great grandchildren; Joel Daniel Franklin, Landon Downs Franklin and Ashton Elizabeth Franklin sisters–in-law, Joan Phibbs of Aiken and Mary Franklin of Newberry. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary B. Clifford and brother, Robert D. Byrd, Jr. The family will greet friends and family at the church from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM prior to the funeral service. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer officiated by the Rev. Matthew Titus. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.
