Sarah Morris Powell, 86, formerly of Newberry, died Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Lexington Extended Care. Born on December 20, 1930 in Newberry, Mrs. Powell was a daughter of the late Olin Simpson and Dollie Turner Morris and was the wife of the late Marvin Luther Powell. She was an active member of College Street Baptist Church. She worked at the Sunset Restaurant and at Quincy's Restaurant for years and as long as she was able, provided loving care for her family. Survivors include her son, Robert A. "Tony" Powell; sister-in-law, Helen Morris of Lexington; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Olin Robert Morris and her sister, Barbara M. McAbee. Visitation will be on Friday, August 11, 2017 from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Whitaker Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Chad Ashby. Interment will be in Rosemont Cemetery.
