Obituary

Sarah "Sally" King of Irmo, SC, died November 30, 2017, surrounded by her family. Born in Gastonia, NC on December 16, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Sarah Torrence Leigh and William E. "Bill" Leigh. A graduate of Stratford College in Danville, Virginia Sally was later trained as a respiratory therapist at Midlands Technical College. She worked as a therapist in adult respiratory care at Baptist Hospital and Richland Memorial Hospital later retiring from the sleep disorders center of Richland Memorial. She was a devoted member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. A Christian who loved her Lord Jesus Christ, she participated in a number of outreach ministries and particularly enjoyed sewing dresses for the African ministry. She initiated Threads of Love, a ministry for premature and sick infants, while at a former church. Working with her hands whether sewing, knitting, crocheting, smocking, or doing crewel work, brought her much enjoyment. She was a voracious reader and also a very gregarious lady who delighted in making new friends and encouraging neighborhood events. She had a deep admiration for her friends and maintained ties with many people from all over the world. Her family was her heart and her happiest times were when she was enjoying the moments surrounded by her family. Todd King (Paula) of Chapin, SC, Susan J. King of Irmo, SC, J. Finley King (Eden) of Mt. Pleasant, SC.
