Shirley Abrams Berry, 100, widow of Olin F. "Scrap" Berry, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024. She was born on May 19, 1923, in Newberry county, and was a daughter of the late Claude Edward Abrams and Ellen Paysinger Abrams.
Mrs. Berry was a graduate of Silverstreet High School and received a business degree from Newberry College. She worked as a bookkeeper at Newberry Mills for 35 years until the mill was closed. She then worked at Senn Freight Lines for 10 years, until her retirement.
Shirley was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served on various committees throughout the years. She was Treasurer of both the Building and Cemetery Funds for over 50 years. She was a recipient of the Christian Lifetime Service Award and was a member of the Women's Circle and the Silver and Gold Club at Trinity, along with the SALT club of Silverstreet Lutheran Church.
She was also active in her community serving as Secretary of the Ruritan Club, as a member of the Silverstreet Town Council, and as a member of the Silverstreet Alumni Association. She was a member of the Family and Community Association and enjoyed traveling as a member of the Roadrunner's Travel Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Sally Berry Hillman and son-in-law, William (Bill) Hillman and two granddaughters Keala Ellen Hillman of Lexington, SC and, Kristen Dena Hillman (Trent Dipner) of Little Mountain, SC, and a great grandson, William (Liam) Thomas Dipner. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Norine Kinard and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one brother, Cyril Edward Abrams, and three sisters, Sarah Inabinet, Katura Neel, and Claudia Sheppard.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 2nd at 2:00 pm at Trinity Methodist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
