Obituary

Stanley Irving Hudnall, Jr., 89, of 696 Mud Creek Road, Newberry died Thursday, November 2, 2017 at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home. Born on August 15, 1928 in Birmingham, AL, he was a son of the late Stanley Irving and Estelle Smith Hudnall. Mr. Hudnall was a member of St. Philip's Lutheran Church and the Adult B Sunday School. He served in the US Navy from 1946 to 1949 and was later recalled to serve for Korean War duty in 1951. Mr. Hudnall received a business degree from Auburn University, and a Masters degree from Xavier University and two additional Masters Degrees from University of South Carolina. He started his career as an electrical engineer at General Electric. Mr. Hudnall then served as the founding director of Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood, and later as the director of the Irmo/Chapin Career Center. Mr. Hudnall was co-founder of TecStone and enjoyed becoming a stone mason. He volunteered in the pre-release program in the SC Department of Corrections. Most important to Mr. Hudnall was being a loving husband, devoted daddy, granddaddy, and great-grandaddy and a good servant of the Lord. He is survived by his children, S. David (Amy) Hudnall of New Haven, CT, Susan (Charlie) Tupper of Edisto, Mike (Janet) Hudnall of Newberry, Jeannie Johnson of Newberry, and Jodi Hudnall of Newberry; grandchildren, John Tupper, Nicki Mollohan, David Tupper, Heather Lindler, Ashton Tupper, Ty Addy, Katie Hudnall, Erin Addy, Michael Hudnall, Steven Young, Molly Hudnall, and Leah Hudnall; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister, Matilda Cockrell of Gainesville, FL. He was predeceased by his wife, his first and only girlfriend, Marjorie Ray Hudnall. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, November 5, 2017 at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel, Newberry. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to Glenda "Gloria" Houston, Jackie Hawkins, Mit Jones, Barbara Dixon, and staff of J.F. Hawkins for their loving care.
